5 Tips for Getting Your First 5-Star Review

Your first review sets the tone for everything. Five simple things that turn a good booking into a glowing one.

A 5-star review on your first booking is worth ten on your hundredth. New hosts don't have a track record, so future guests read the first review very carefully. Here's what we've seen actually move that needle.

1. Message first, message fast

Within ten minutes of a booking confirmation, send the guest a short message: your name, how to find the place, parking, wifi, your phone. No template-speak. Guests screenshot this to share with their friends — it's the first impression of you, not your space.

2. Over-deliver on the small stuff

A stack of disposable plates guests didn't know you'd leave. A dimmer in the main room they didn't notice in the photos. Two bottles of cold water on the counter. These show up in reviews far more often than the expensive features you paid for.

3. Be reachable — not present

Guests want to know you're one text away. They don't want you in the space during their event. Hand off keys or share a door code before they arrive and disappear. Check in once an hour after start if you're anxious, but one message is plenty.

4. Set the room up for them

If they told you it's a kid's birthday, have the tables pre-arranged in a U-shape and the chairs stacked nearby. They still do the final setup, but they arrive to a space that clearly anticipates them. Zero-effort thoughtfulness.

5. Ask for the review directly

Two days after the event, send one message: "Hope it went well — if you have 30 seconds, a quick review on EventSpace really helps me out as a new host." That's it. Most guests mean to write one and forget; the nudge works.
